Strategy For Sustainable Development

“Imo state’s potentials are so vast that every idea has a place, everybody has a room. Why struggle? You are very welcome”

MY DEVELOPMENT PRINCIPLE:

I believe in active and versatile private sector participation, as a vehicle for economic development. The government must provide a stable, conducive, and enabling environment to promote a flourishing private sector. Productivity will always increase in an environment, where there is minimum distraction (power problems, communication hitches, crime and multiple taxation), equal participation, equity distribution, and unalloyed support for innovation and creativity. Therefore, the task of developing our state cannot be left for the government. Rather, it is for men and women with innovative ideas, the private sector, and hard-working academicians.  The state should recognize that and work with such people. Everyone benefits from a strong economy.

In various speeches I have made around the world I have always maintained that only an economy based on the principles of sustainability will be able to secure prosperity and quality of life in the long run. In a meeting I held with officials of the World Bank in Washington DC in 2001, I made it clear that Imo State holds the key to the development of Nigeria. Our geographic location is strategic, our natural resources are abundant, our manpower is superb, our business environment is comparatively conducive, and our people are hardworking and ready to deliver.

Below are some of my ideas how we can build a sustainable economic development.
